Mosley

Life insurance is definitely something that all adults, especially those with dependents, should seriously think about. Listed below are some great tips to help you get the life policy that is best for you:

Different Types of Life Insurance: Find out Which You Need

Before purchasing life coverage you must first know which one is right for you. Life insurance can be divided into two types: Term Life and Whole Life. Term life is short-term life coverage that offers substantial death benefits at an affordable price (and usually not much else.) This is ideal for those raising a family or paying mortgage. Whole life is a permanent type of coverage that accumulates in value over a long period of time. Whole life offers more features and benefits but can be quite expensive in its early years.

Compare Life Insurers

Identifying the best rated insurers based on customer service, billing and payments, claims handling and pricing is now easier with independent rating agencies such as Moody’s, A.M. Best, and J.D. Powers. These companies publish accurate and detailed information (available on their websites) that help consumers identify top performing insurers today.

Will Drinking Alcohol Affect A Life Insurance Rate

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

Reader question:

How will documented drinking problems affect my  life insurance quote?

Luther

Thanks for the question, Luther.

Having a history of drinking problems will make life insurance companies freeze up around you, and it’s very possible that you won’t be able to get a life insurance quote at all. If you have only one DUI, for example, you might start out with the highest prices, and after a year of clean living work your way up to the regular pricing. But if you have any more DUIs and an un-pretty record, then you’ll have more trouble than that, and might not be able to be insured.

As for being an alcoholic, that affects your  life insurance quote in much the same way, even if you have been into a treatment center and have stayed sober for awhile. Most former alcoholics will have to stay sober for five years before they can get a standard rating, and one to two decades more if they want to do better than that.

Can I Still Get Life Insurance Even Though I Drink Alcohol

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

Reader question:

Will I be able to get good  life insurance quotes even though I drink?

Mario

Hm, Mario…

You can still get pretty good life insurance quotes as a drinker, but it can also affect your policy for the worse. It all really depends on what kind of drinker you are. The more alcohol you consume, the more likely you are to chop years off of your life expectancy and lose money as a result.

So, how much do you drink?

  • Socially.

If you just drink occasionally with friends or at special occasions, then you’re probably in the clear. And when I say “drink occasionally with friends”, I don’t mean “bather in lager every weekend with the frat boys”. Drinking socially is better, but still in moderation.

  • 1-2 drinks each day.

You’re getting on the unhealthy side here, and it’s likely that you won’t be able to pay the preferred  life insurance rate. Maybe you should cut back.

  • 3+ drinks a day.

Okay, now you’re getting ridicoolus. Ridicullus. Radicalisscuous. Wait, what’s going on?

Causing mental impairment, increased lack of control, liver problems, and more, heavy drinking like this will pretty much guarantee that you have to pay extra for your life insurance.

How Much Money To Put Down on Life Insurance Policy

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

Reader question:

How much coverage do I need to put down for my family when looking for good life insurance rates?

Martin

Glad you asked.

When determining your  life insurance rates, you have to look at not only the possible debts you will leave behind, but also the well being of your family. It’s hard enough to lose a loved one to the other side, and even harder still when you find yourself in a whirlwind of financial ruin as a result. Any life insurance policy you purchase should be able to keep your family out of debt and enable them to continue living life at the same standards of living as before.

For this, it’s not quite as set in stone, but here is how I did it. a good place to start is to determine how much you make a year. If you make $30,000 a year, then if you die, that is how much your family is going to lose, so you need to invest in a way that will allow them an extra income benefit of $30,000 a year for around five years or so.

There are two ways you can do this. Either you can purchase a benefit that will pay your family $20,000 each year. Or, for lower  life insurance rates, you can purchase around $300,000 of insurance, and when you pass on, your family can invest that and it will generate $30k a year for them.

How Much Life Insurance Coverage Really Is Needed

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

Reader question: How do I get the right amount of coverage for quotes for life insurance?

Alice Good question. One thing that you need to decide before you start looking up quotes for life insurance  is just how much of it you’re going to need. You might want to go for a small amount because it’s cheaper, or a larger amount because of the greater wealth, but in the end you might find that your first inclinations aren’t the most responsible ones.

You should consider several things when deciding how much coverage to list when looking for quotes for life insurance in. One of the main types of reasons for life insurance that is often overlooked, though, is insurance against debt. For example, right now I am buying a house with a $100,000 mortgage. I also have a car, which I am $18,000 away from paying off.

I have several other various debts, for medical bills, credit cards, and the like, which come out to a total of round $5000. I make regular payments on these right now, but what if I died? My creditors would be out of luck, and may even move to harassing my family. This is why you need to consider more than cost of living when you are deciding your coverage. take care, Fashun

Quotes For Houston Life Insurance Rates

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

Reader question:

Are there any scams I should avoid when digging up a quote for Houston life insurance?

Gisele

Good question.

I have to put out a warning based on my experience, and that warning is, when you get a quote for life insurance, beware of the companies that quote you extremely low prices, whose headlines say things like:

ATTN:

$500,000 LIFE INSURANCE POLICY

$13 A MONTH

NO MEDICAL EXAM!!!!

I saw one of those once a few years ago and got really excited, because, you know, i needed a quote for Houston life insurance, but I don’t make a lot of money. Heck, with that kind of policy i might have just offed myself with the guarantee that they bury the money with me.

The trouble is that when you follow the trail and go to the company to actually get a quote, it doesn’t turn out to be quite as unicorns and rainbows as they make you think. After all, at those rates there’s no way the company would make money, especially if they don’t actually know what kind of health you have. The quote might be true, but not for the amount of policy they offer you, and in the end if you want what they say in the ad, you have to pay a lot more. So, just listen to my experience and ignore the ads; get quotes.

New Jersey Life Insurance Rate Comparisons

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

Reader question:

How do I get the best life insurance rates?

Jacob in New Jersey

Glad you asked.

Before you go online to make a life insurance rate comparisons, you need to assess your life and see what steps you can take to make sure you will receive cheaper rate quotes.

  • If you’re a smoker, stop! (or at least stop for 15-20 days before you take a medical exam)

No matter how little you may be afraid of developing cancer, your life insurance company won’t take such a cavalier attitude for it, and will charge you a lot more. After you have been smoke free for a year, you can get better rates.

  • Keep in one company.

Buy your life insurance policy from the same company you have your other types of insurance with, and save on all of them.

  • Discounts.

When making a rate comparison, be sure to look beyond the initial quote. Check the company’s website and see what kind of discounts they offer. You would be surprised at the extent of discounts many companies have.
