How To Get Life Insurance Coverage For Smokers

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

Reader question:

How can I get smoker life insurance?

Daisy

Good question.

It doesn’t really make any difference whether you smoke a pack a day or one cigarette a couple of times a year. Most life insurance companies will charge you for higher priced smoker life insurance just the same.

There are even some companies who cater specifically to people who smoke. I’ve checked out the quotes to a few of these, though, and they tend to be higher. The difference is that where one company might deny you, they’ll definitely accept you…for a price.

There’s a pretty good reason why smoker life insurance is costlier than other kinds of life insurance. Almost all lung cancer cases are contributed to by smoking, and these types of cancer are also usually more deadly than things such as breast cancer, colon cancer, etc.

The good thing is that, if you try, you can get rid of the effects of smoking pretty quickly. After you’ve abstained from smoking for a day, you have less risk of heart attack. Ten years letter, 50% less risk for lung cancer. Five years after that, it’s as if you’d never picked up a cigarette at all.

Getting Cheap Smoker Friendly Life Insurance Coverage

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

Reader question:

Is there any way to get around the high priced smoker life insurance rate?  I want coverage but I need something cheap that I can afford, which does not seem easy to get these days.

Chris

Glad you asked.

There are two things you need to do to get a smoker life insurance rate. They are:

  • admit that you are a smoker on your life insurance policy application
  • fail a nicotine test during your medical exam
  • stop smoking for at least 20 days before taking the medical exam, your blood will show nicotine for a long time after you stop….hard I know.

Now, if you get no medical exam insurance and you just choose not to reveal your smoking habits, you might slide by without a higher priced smoker rate, but you could get your policy canceled because of this. One question which may come up for recently former smokers is–how long does it take for the nicotine to clear out of your body?

Now, this depends on your metabolism. Typically, after three days without smoking, you won’t show up as a smoker on the test, but some people have a disorder which they may never realize they have until they take one of these tests, where it takes several months to pass nicotine through their body. If you want to be sure on getting non smoker rates, you could wait a year after you quit smoking.

How Much Should Life Insurance For Smokers Cost

Reader question:

How much does smoker life insurance coverage cost, just on average?

Sally

Glad you asked.

Smoker life insurance rates are constantly changing, but I have compiled a few quotes which can give you an idea of what smoker life insurance may cost you.  Smoker life insurance costs about thrice as much as a typical policy, so even though these prices may not be extremely high, think of what you could be paying.

    • 10 year term life insurance
      • $367
    • 20 year term life insurance

How much does life insurance coverage cost?

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

Reader question:

How much does life insurance coverage cost?

Lucille

Good question.

How much does life insurance coverage cost? Well, that will depend on several factors, from the type and amount of coverage you buy, to how old you are, to your health problems and activities, to your financial situation, and more. However, after getting quotes for several different situations, I can give you an idea of what your payment should be around.

  • How much does life insurance coverage cost?

I tried two different scenarios. One was a healthy, non smoking, young man. At the age of 30, he would have been paying around $27 a month for his life insurance policy. By the time he reached 40, it would have risen around $10. As for a 50 year old man, he would have been paying around $86 each month for a $500,000 term policy.

Then I tried an overweight young smoker who also purcahsed a term life insurance policy for $500,000. At the age of the 30, he would have been paying around $140 a month; at 40, more like $200; and then again at fifty, $500.

This is why it is so important to keep in shape.

Houston smoker term life insurance

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

Reader question:

Can I just…lie in order to not get Houston smoker term life insurance rates?

Kasey

Interesting question.

In many cases, companies take your word on it when it comes to smoking. You are rated for Houston smoker term life insurance if you put a check in the yes box next to the question: do you smoke? This also goes if you smoke cigars or chew tobacco. Some people can be tempted to lie, especially since you can abstain from smoking for three days and it will not leave traces in your urine. What you decide is up to you.

Lying on your application may not mean that your policy will be denied, but it’s still not a good idea. Since a lot of people do this, life insurance companies go to extra effort to find out who is telling the truth and who isn’t.

One of the main problems with lying in order to avoid the rate for Houston smoker term life insurance is that, if you die within two years since you got your policy and your insurance company finds out that you smoked, then they can deny your claim and your family will receive nothing. It doesn’t matter if you die from something cause by smoking or just in a freak accident–they can still deny it, or they can just pay out what you would have gotten if you had Houston smoker term life insurance.

Houston no exam life insurance policy

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

Reader question:

What are the benefits of a Houston no exam life insurance policy?

Jose

Good question.

Even if you choose to buy a Houston no exam life insurance policy, your savings are only as good as how you treat yourself while you have this policy. Since no exam policies are almost always term policies (and if they are whole life then you should be suspicious), eventually it will be over, and being older, you will probably have to submit yourself to a physical in order to get a new life insurance policy.

In order to keep your body healthy as you get over, you need to practice a healthy living style. One of the main things that affects older people buying life insurance policies is a history of smoking. Even if you don’t suffer any negative health effects from this, you will still have to pay higher prices for your life insurance simply because of the possibility of health effects.

You should also do some research, while you still have your Houston no exam life insurance policy, of what kind of illnesses are common in your family and how that will affect your life insurance rates, even if you don’t inherit one of these illnesses.

Cheap life insurance for smoker

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

Reader question:

How long after I get off cigarettes can I get cheap life insurance for smoker?

Tim

Thanks for asking.

Cheap life insurance for smoker applicants is nearly impossible to get, but if you put in the effort to quit smoking then you can get lower rates within a relatively short period of time. There are many ways to quit smoking, from pills to programs to patches, but mostly you just need a will and the support of your family and friends.

Once you have quit, it takes a year with most companies for them to start seeing you as healthy. After a year, many companies will allow you to have a standard rate with their company.

After you have been done with smoking for three years, though, you can move up the ladder to a preferred position and get some very good rates.

The best rates you can get as a former smoker are after you have been done with smoking for a period of five years. Since cheap life insurance for smoker applicants is rare, this is the way to go.

Atlanta GA life insurance rate comparison

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

Reader question:

What is the effect of smoking cigars on an Atlanta GA life insurance rate comparison?

Anne

Glad you asked.

When you smoke cigars, it is even more important to make an Atlanta GA life insurance rate comparison than ever, because you are most likely to be faced with higher rates.

You may be incredibly healthy, but as a smoker, you still have a higher chance of developing health problems, and even if you pass your physical with flying colors, your life insurance company will still take that into consideration with rating your policy. While cigars are not as unhealthy as cigarettes, they still contain many of the same ingredients, which is also a reason why you will be charged more for your life insurance if you chew tobacco as well.

There is a difference, though, between being a smoker and being someone who smokes a cigar now and then on special occasions. Companies have different ways of determining this. For some companies, if you smoke one cigar or less each year, then you will not be charged as a smoker, but any more than that and you will.

If you are a person who smokes cigars irregularly, then you should do an Atlanta GA life insurance rate comparison and also check out what the companies’ policies are for celabratory smoking.

Texas smoker life insurance rate

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

Reader question:

Will I get a Texas smoker life insurance rate if I start after getting rated?

Jerry

Interesting question.

Now that you know about lying on your application to get the non Texas smoker life insurance rate, what happens if you begin smoking after you have already purchased a non smoker claim? Should you get your policy rated again at a smoker fee in order to avoid getting your family into trouble in the event of your death? Are you under risk of having your policy canceled?

Not really. It may not make any sense at all, but the truth is that with most companies, if you decide to pick up a cigarette every day and have a go after you have already gotten your policy, they don’t mind. Most companies care more about you telling the truth on your application, and somebody starting smoking after they’ve already bought a policy is so rare as to not be worth addressing by most companies.

Now, if you have a term policy, then once it ends, if you are still smoking, you will recieve a Texas smoker life insurance rate for your renewal.
